Hi, I’m Nele! If there’s one thing I’ve learned after over 20 years on wheels, it’s that life is way more fun when you’re rolling. I grew up in Belgium, cruising through the 90s on my inline skates, feeling that unbeatable sense of freedom and adventure. After one summer of inline skating, I never looked back: I found my true love in quad skates when I discovered roller derby. The moment I laced up my roller skates, I knew my skating journey was only just beginning.

Life is way more fun when you’re rolling.

How Isle of Skating Came to Life.

Founded during the wild months of 2020, Isle of Skating was born out of a deep love for skating and community. But truthfully, this dream has been in our hearts for much longer.

Skating drives us, connects us, and feels like home — and that’s exactly the feeling we want to share with you..

From Belgium to the world stage.

Suddenly, I was part of a tight-knit community, where I could push my limits, fall, get back up, and keep rolling, literally! My dedication led me to skate in two Roller Derby World Cups with Team Belgium. Then, because I’m always up for a challenge, I moved countries to join London Roller Derby, one of the most hard-working and prestigious teams in Europe.

I made the England selection and helped the England Roller Derby take home the bronze medal at the latest Roller Derby World Cup with 50 participating teams.

From Hobby to Skating School.

But here’s the twist: I never planned to run a business. Zero business experience. Nada. During the lockdowns of 2020, I just wanted to share my love of skating, so I started offering socially distanced lessons in London.

What started as a casual hobby turned into a passion project, and before I knew it, I was running London’s biggest roller skating school! Today, Isle of Skating has expanded to over 10 locations across the city, with weatherproof venues and an amazing team of talented coaches.

These days, I’m not just mentoring new skate teachers and offering 1:1 coaching sessions, I’m also managing Isle of Skating, making sure everything rolls smoothly (pun totally intended 😉).

And to top it all off, I’m incredibly lucky to be sponsored by two amazing skate brands—Bont Skates and S1 Helmets—which feels like a dream come true.
