How can we help?
Skating locations and venues
-
All over the city! Isle of Skating runs roller skating lessons in London at Hackney, Tottenham, Walthamstow, Southwark, Brixton, Stockwell, Streatham, Camden, Hammersmith, Roller Nation, and Newham. Whether you're a complete beginner or want to level up your skills, we've got a location near you! We teach in cool and vibrant spots across the city, offering everything from beginner roller skating classes to artistic, jam, and rhythm skating. Browse our location page to find the best location close to your home, your work or near your best mate.
-
Our Open Skate sessions are perfect for practicing your skills in a fun, safe, and inclusive space. We also love Roller Nation in Tottenham—it’s London’s only roller rink! And when summer rolls around, you’ll find skaters in Hyde Park, Victoria Park, and other London parks enjoying the sunshine on wheels.
-
Please check our website for detailed directions to each of our venues, including information on public transport and parking. If the access to the hall where your course will take place is very specific, we’ll email you beforehand so you don’t have to worry!
-
Parking availability varies by venue. Please see the specific venue details on our website when booking. You can always email us if you cannot find the information you need!
-
Our venues vary from big community centre to school and academy sports halls. Sometimes the halls are standard size, sometimes massive! You can feel comfortable that we carefully consider the sizes of the groups to match the space available and to ensure our skaters are safe and that our coach (or coaches!) are able to provide the best lessons possible.
-
Yes, all our roller skating classes in London take place indoors—except for our “Foundations for Outdoor Skating” class, which (for obvious reasons 😆) happens outdoors.
Roller skates and protective gear
-
We don’t rent out skates, but we offer 10% off roller skates and gear at Double Threat Skates when you sign up for a course! We can also help you find second-hand roller skates—there’s a thriving London skate community buying and selling quality used gear. Affordable skating? Yes, please!
-
At Isle of Skating we teach skills on quad skates! Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate inline skaters.
-
The team at Double Threat Skates is amazing at helping skaters find their perfect setup! Visit their London store near King’s Cross St Pancras or browse online. There are a variety of brands and it can be exhausting to choose a pair yourself. You can feel in safe hands at DTS!
-
Absolutely! Knee pads and wrist guards are strongly recommended for all skaters. In our kids' classes, helmets and elbow pads are required. Safety first, always!
-
Nope! Toe stops are super helpful, especially for beginners. You can adjust or shorten them as you improve, but don’t worry—you won’t be forced to remove them. Once you pick up more jam and dance skating skills you might be recommended to give a jam plug a go as these will be easier for dips and a range of roller rink tricks.
-
A good all-round setup is quad skates with hybrid wheels—great for both indoor and outdoor skating. Need personalized advice? Double Threat Skates (or one of our coaches) can help you pick the perfect gear.
-
For indoor skating, softer urethane wheels (around 78A-92A durometer) are generally preferred. They provide better grip on smooth surfaces. Lots of beginner recreational skates already come with softer grippier wheels (78A-82A) that will be great to prevent you from sliding away uncontrollably! 85A is considered a hybrid wheel and will be great both indoors and outdoors. Once you want to upgrade to more slide to master those dance moves, you can go harder! The bigger the number the harder the wheel is. Confused with the wheels and hardnesses? Don’t worry - if you’ve got wheels in your skates you’ll be good to get started and our coaches will be happy to help you forward!
Booking courses and sessions
-
Awesome that you’ve booked a course with us! To start with you will receive an automatic purchase confirmation sent to the email address you signed up with. Is this your first time skating and you need to get your gear, or you’re keen to upgrade? You’ll receive an email confirmation with a discount code to Double Threat Skates, and a day or two before your first session on the course you’ll get a welcome email. If you’ve booked a single session, you won’t receive a welcome email but trust us, we will drop an email if there is some key info we want you to know ahead of your session or afterwards!
-
Check your spam mail too see if our email ended up there, and don’t forget to check if you’ve added a secondary email of yours to our details when booking! Drop us an email if you cannot find your welcome email or any correspondence. We normally email you one day before your first session if you booked a course. Remember you won’t get additional information for single sessions and you can feel assured to rock up on the day.
-
If a course is sold out, make sure to put your details on the waiting list of the course you want to attend. You will receive an email as soon as we add a new course! We rotate our different levels in all the different locations, so to avoid waiting too long, do consider another location! You could always check our calendar to get an overview of what is planned.
Choosing your level
-
Not at all! Our beginner roller skating classes in London are perfect for absolute newbies. If you’ve never worn skates, don’t know how to lace them up, or are worried about falling—we’ve got your back. Our expert coaches will teach you step by step, from standing up on skates to rolling with confidence. You can book a full roller skating course or drop in for a one-off class—whichever fits your style!
-
Not necessarily! Our Level 1 class is perfect for nervous skaters, anyone lacking confidence, or those returning from injury. If you can already roll a little and feel ready for more, you can jump straight into Level 2 and start building up your skating skills.
-
Of course! Skating is for everyone, and we welcome all skaters, no matter where you've trained before. Whether you’re switching up your learning style or just want to meet more skaters, you’re always welcome at Isle of Skating.
-
Our courses are put together in such way that each new level starts where the previous level finished. Yes, you are most likely ready to move up if you, even though slow, manage to do the drills of your finished course. If you doubt, have a little chat with your coach who will be able to give you feedback. There is also great benefits in doing the same course twice, and we regularly have skaters doing this so they can work on their muscle memory.
We believe in you!
For those who want to keep practicing in between courses, Skate Club could be your weekly playground and of course keep an eye on our Open Skate Sessions!
Sessions and Coaches
-
Expect good vibes, great music, and lots of rolling! Every class kicks off with a warm-up to loosen up your joints (and shake off any nerves). Then, we dive into skate skills, where your coach will guide you through drills, techniques, and some fun challenges. You’ll get 1:1 tips, try out variations, and maybe even play a game or two. We finish with a cool-down and, of course, a group selfie—because progress deserves to be celebrated!
-
Our single sessions are roughly £14-£18 for an hour of skating - courses are £100 for 6 weeks of weekly rolls, unless you book one of our more inexpensive Skate Club courses. Our unfacilitated Open Skate sessions are £5 to £8! Our aim is to have affordable roller skating lessons, while keeping the quality high and numbers of skaters low.
-
Your skates, protective gear (knee pads + wrist guards), and a water bottle—hydration is key! A skate tool is also handy in case you need to tweak your setup.
-
Roller skating can get intense! So you’ll get the best out of the skills if you dress in comfy clothes that allow you to move and even sweat loads.
-
Mostly indoors, because London weather is unpredictable (and no one wants to skate through a rainstorm 🌧). But some of our venues have outdoor spaces, so if the sun decides to shine and everyone’s up for it, we might roll outside! We also run special outdoor classes like "Fundamentals of Outdoor Skating", designed to help you confidently skate on pavements, roads, and parks.
-
Isle of Skating roller skating teachers are the best! They are a small group of London based dedicated skaters who are passionate about sharing their love of roller skating. Some have skated internationally, some have won championships, and all of them are dedicated to helping you feel confident on wheels. Basically, you're in super-skilled hands! Have a look at our coaches page to get even more excited!
-
You’ve booked your session - fabulous! Make sure you’ve got your quad skates and protective gear ready to go. Yet to buy the gear? Don’t forget your Double Threat Skates discount! If you feel nervous to start in a group lesson, you can put your skates on at home and try standing up before your first session and get a bit of a feel of how it is like to roll. Make sure to keep an eye on the welcome email you’ll receive from us before the start of your course, and join the WhatsApp group to make friends and stay in touch with your coach and the session plans. Arrive early for your session, and make sure to bring your water bottle and good vibes with you!
-
Celebrate your roller skating achievements with Isle of Skating at our exclusive Roller Nation graduation party skate! Once you've completed any of our 6 week course, join us for a fun-filled session at Roller Nation, complete with cool vibes and great tunes. We'll handle the booking for a Monday or Thursday of your choice, so you can show off your new skills and connect with fellow skaters in a lively, celebratory atmosphere. It's the perfect way to cap off your learning journey and enjoy the thrill of the rink!
Learning and making friends
-
100% YES! The roller skating community is one of the friendliest out there. Whether you're a total beginner or a seasoned skater, you’ll meet amazing people who share your love for rolling. Join our classes, skate meet-ups, and open skate sessions—you’ll have a whole squad in no time! Make sure to join your course-specific WhatsApp group to make the most out of the time with your course mates and continue deepening your skating friendships after your sessions finish.
-
Absolutely! Our roller skating classes are designed to be inclusive and supportive for everyone, regardless of learning style or pace. We understand that everyone learns differently, and our instructors are patient and adaptable. We prioritise creating a safe and encouraging environment, where you can progress at your own speed. We're committed to providing personalised attention and modifications as needed, ensuring you feel comfortable and confident on your skates. You can feel free to email us before booking if you’d like to let us know how best we can accommodate your needs.
-
Nope, you’re never too old to roll! Skating is for everyone, whether you’re 5 or 55. Many people pick up roller skating as adults for fun, fitness, and stress relief—so if you’re thinking about it, go for it!
-
Falling is part of the journey, but don’t worry—we’ll teach you how to fall safely (yes, that’s a thing!). You might get a few bumps and bruises along the way, but with protective gear (like knee pads and wrist guards), you’ll be skating smarter and safer. In the beginning you will learn how to fall safely, and often learning to fall adds into your level of confidence on eight wheels. Plus, falling means you’re learning and leveling up—wear those scuffs with pride!
-
Expect a vibrant mix of skaters in our lessons! We welcome all ages, ethnicities, and skill levels, from total beginners to those looking to refine their technique. Our focus is on creating a supportive, inclusive, and safe space for everyone to learn and enjoy roller skating, so you'll be sharing the experience with a diverse and welcoming community.
-
Often an hour of sessions per week is good for maintaining your skills and taking those small steps to improve. Consistent practice is key to improving roller skating. If you can, we highly recommend carving some time to put your skates on and test the skills outside your classes as well –sometimes all you need is a different mindset, or a change in the time of a day when you practice. Remember that everyone learns at a different pace, and the key is to have loads of fun!
-
Roller skating has a learning curve, but is achievable with patience. Initial balance can be tricky, but factors like prior experience and practice dedication affect difficulty. Safety gear boosts confidence, and breaking down skills into small steps helps. Consistent effort and a positive attitude make learning enjoyable.

Terms & Conditions

Sometimes everyday life gets in the way of our skating plans. Sad times, for sure, and you won’t be the only one missing a session.
Unfortunately, we can't offer additional classes to make up for any that you miss due to limits on our class size.
But don't worry, all of our Isle of Skating coaches are really good at recapping what was covered; so even if you have to miss a session, we're confident that with a bit of practice you'll catch up super fast. It’s useful if you join the WhatsApp group we set up for your sessions so you have the chance to keep up and bond with your skating family. -
Oops! We've all been there. At some point we've all got excited and clicked on the wrong thing by mistake.
Just email us to let us know as soon as you realise. If you can tell us within 24 hours of making the booking, and it's also more than 7 days before the start of your class or course, we'll give you a credit of the value of your booked course.
-
If you notice us 14 days before the start of a course we can move you to another start date or location.
-
What a bummer you have been unable to join your classes. Unfortunately we can't enroll you to a new course if you have been unable to make your sessions. Worried about your progress or options? Don’t hesitate to send us an email!
-
We feel for you - it can be frustrating when COVID, an injury, a totally unreasonable boss, or even a surprise holiday stops us from living our skating dreams.
At the same time, we are only a small business. After paying our venue, coaching, insurance, and admin costs, we're left with pretty tight margins, and we won't be able to offer a refund or credit for a booking you can no longer attend. For the same reasons, moving your booking over to a later course means you would take up 2 spots in total, you get the picture?
We'd encourage students to check the course dates carefully before booking - as we really do want you to have the best possible experience and value for money when you skate with us.
-
Say no more. Please send us an email with the course you would like to attend and we’ll get you sorted.
After receiving a reservation payment, we will ask you to make a second payment just before the start of the sessions.
-
In the unlikely event of a cancellation, we will contact you and offer an equivalent session at an alternative date and time. You will be offered a refund for a session if it needs to be cancelled.
